Gretchen and Pups

One of the best and most active rescuers of Great Pyrenees in the country is Leslie Sampson of LoneStar Pyrs & Paws-North.  Leslie has a wonderful organization up in New Hampshire and her group takes loads of GPs from the South, fosters them and finds them good homes.

We haven't sponsored many dogs for LoneStar North, because Leslie only asks for help if they really need it.

Well, they are asking for help to save Gretchen and her puppies.

Gretchen made the mistake of getting pregnant (as if it were her fault she was never spayed) and got dumped in a kill shelter with her puppies in New York.  I guess her irresponsible owner just couldn't deal with the hassle, so he throws his pet (and her babies) to be killed.

Lucky for Gretchen, Leslie agreed to take them all with our sponsorship.

Update - when GPRS got Bucky, he turned out to be a girl (or should we say a gyrl?)!  She has been renamed Lia.  The vet thinks that Lia was kicked - very hard, so that's why she can barely walk.

Could you please help save Bucky?

This puppy was found injured in a kill shelter in Central Texas.

When our friends from Great Pyrenees Rescue of Houston agreed to take Bucky, they knew it was going to be an expensive rescue as he can barely walk .  Of course, no one will adopt this sweetie until he gets fixed up.

GPRS Houston needs help with this one.  We have agreed to sponsor $300 - part of the cost of his medical expenses.  Please help if you can!

With our sponsorship, Great Pyrenees Rescue Society of Houston will get Bucky vetted and put him  in a loving foster home while they look for a good permanent home for him.

Please give $5 to help save poor Yogi!


Yogi was owner surrendered to a kill shelter in rural Texas. He is five years old, and a purebred chocolate lab. He is heartworm positive, which means that he was not a good candidate for rescue.

 Yogi's owner told the shelter director that Yogi had alerted her when a seizure was coming on. He saved her life numerous times. Another time robbers came into the home and Yogi kept them cornered until the police arrived.

His owner could not keep him any longer (we suspect she was going into assisted living) and she left him at the pound, and asked that he find a great home. [Excuse me, but that sounds incredibly lame to us - the dog saves your life so you dump him in a kill shelter?  People can be so irresponsible!]  Sadly Angleton shelter cannot adopt to the public. So the only options are rescue or euthanasia.  She did report that he was good with all other dogs, small children and cats.

At the shelter, the director puts many dogs in each kennel so that she doesn't have to kill them unless she has to, and begs rescues to save them.

Yogi was in a kennel with all the puppies she had, and at night he'd let them all sleep snuggled up against him to keep them warm.

Our friend Em Wolf of Mountain Dog Rescue  needs help with this one.  We have agreed to sponsor him to enable them to save him and give him the care he needs.  Please help if you can!

98 Oklahoma Dogs Need Gas Money!

Hi Michael and Friends,

Happy New Year. And I hope a happy new year for these puppies.

Received a phone call early this morning from animal control.  These baby puppies was dumped at the police station. They were cold and hungry. Immedately I was called, can we please help.

These babies are right at 4 weeks old.

Another call came from Sallisaw Animal Pound, another litter of baby puppies. 5 of them. All around 4 weeks old.

Got another call from animal control in Vian, 3 more puppies around the age of 4 months.

Right now I have puppies in both bathrooms, in our back bedroom.

At the present moment we have the following:

Mom Shepherd and 14 puppies - 3 weeks old
Baby puppies - terrier mix - 5 weeks old (13 of them)
Mom Beagle mix and puppies - (6 of them)
Little of 8 puppies mixed around 3 weeks old
The above puppies - 8 of them
3 lab mixed puppies - 4 months old
l terrier mix puppie - 2 months old
40 adult dogs taken from hoader back in October
5 small mix dogs around 6 months old taken from pound
5 shep/lab mix puppies - 4 months old from Tina in Sallisaw
4 lab/terrier puppies - 5 months old from Tina in Sallisaw

All of these HAVE to be transported on the 9th to Chicago and Wisconsin humane societies.

Please we are asking for help for the above group so they will get their only chance for a home.
