This is Jewel. When Linda, Mikie and Holly took her from a backyard breeder, she was dying from pneumonia. The vet gave her only a 50/50 chance of making it through the night. We agreed to sponsor her.
Fortunately, Jewel did pull through! Unfortunately, her vet bills were very, very high. Our sponsorship will help pay the bills and enable these wonderful people to continue saving doomed dogs.

Bertie was a lonely stray for months. She was slowly starving to death when she was picked up by animal control in rural Tennessee. They brought her to a kill shelter. No one wanted to adopt her and things looked bad when Great Pyrenees Rescue Atlanta learned about her. With our sponsorship, they pulled her from the shelter the day before she was scheduled to depart this life. Our sponsorship is helping them to afford to vet and foster her.

Could you give $5 to help save this sweet little girl?
Please use our ChipIn at www.doomeddogs.blogspot.com
This is Christine, a cute Shibu Inu girl. She ended up in a kill shelter in Pennsylvania and no one wanted to adopt her.
She was scheduled to die. Luckily, however, she was saved at the last minute by our friends at the Rescue Express with our sponsorship.
Please help by chipping in to pay part of her vetting and foster costs!

This is Billy, a handsome boxer boy. He went into a shelter and was rescued. I suppose the rescue could not find someone to adopt him or maybe no one wanted to pay for his heartworm treatment when they found out he was heartworm positive. So the rescue organization returned him to the shelter. That was a really cruel turn of fate.
He was due to be euthanized when the Rescue Express took him out, with our sponsorship. Our donations will go toward the costs of fostering him and paying for his heartworm treatment.
Please help!

Could you please chip in $5 to help this tattered boy?
This potentially handsome Great Pyr was on his last day in a kill shelter in Missouri when, with our sponsorship, rescue champion Carolyn Jordan stepped in to save his life. He was so matted and flea infested he had to be shorn like the sheep he was born to protect. Our sponsorship will pay part of his medical and fostering costs.

Garth is beautiful Great Pyr or GP-St.Bernard mix. He ended up in a Texas kill shelter, where he was obviously lonely and frightened. Huge dogs are not the easiest to place, so he hit the jackpot when the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society of Houston learned about him. With our sponsorship, they pulled him from the shelter before he could be killed. Our sponsorship money will go toward vet bills and other costs of fostering him.

Could you please chip in $5 for these adorable babies?
Please chip in at www.doomeddogs.blogspot.com.
These poor little babies were dumped at a kill shelter in rural Texas. They are a little red because they have mange. Mangy dogs are hard to place and little puppies are at great risk of infection at shelters, so things looked pretty bad for Ms. Colby and Ms. Tova.
Our friends at the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society of Houston, with our sponsorship, pulled them from the shelter before they could be killed. Our sponsorship money will go toward vet bills and other costs (of which there will be a lot!).

Could you please chip in $5 for this poor blind boy?
Marceau was a blind stray in Houston - it is a miracle he lived long enough to be picked up. He had virtually no chance of being rescued - who would want a blind dog? Well, our friends at the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society of Houston are up to a challenge! With our sponsorship, they will get him medical treatment, foster him and find him a good home. Our sponsorship money will go toward vet bills and other costs of fostering him.

Dasha's story is just another tale we have heard many times before. This beautiful Great Pyr became a stray and had no tags and no chip, so when she was picked up and put into a kill shelter in Texas, there was no way to find her owners.
Huge adult dogs are not easily adoptable, so she stayed in the shelter until her time was up.
Fortunately, with our sponsorship, our friends at the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society of Houston pulled her from the shelter before she could be killed. Our sponsorship money will go toward vet and foster costs.

Could you please chip in $5 to help this Mom and pup?
This poor Mom and her puppy are Akbashes or Akbash/GP mixes. They ended up as strays in rural Oklahoma, a bad place to be for a stray dog. With our sponsorship, Oklahoma GP Rescue, an affiliate of National Great Pyrenees Rescue, took them in and put them in foster care while they look for a new home for them. Our donations will go toward paying for their vet and other costs.

Rupert was turned into the shelter at 10 weeks of age - probably another case where the breeder had an extra pup from a litter that he couldn't sell. The pup gets a little older than the perfect adoption age of 7-9 weeks, so take him to the kill shelter because it's not worth spending the money to vet and feed him.
Shelters are death traps for puppies, places where they can easily catch distemper, parvo or other deadly diseases.
Luckily, with our sponsorship, our friends at the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society of Houston snatched him up. Our sponsorship money will go toward vet bills and foster costs.

Our friends Connie and Dave are planning another trip on Friday. This time it is a trip from Oklahoma to bring at least 39 doomed dogs and puppies to safety in Minnesota. Our $200 sponsorship is about $5 a dog - it can be so cheap to save a puppy's life!
Here’s an update from Connie and Dave:
Hi Michael,
Here is a picture of Sonic, a 5 - 6 month old beagle mix from the Glenpool Pound in Glenpool, OK.
I received an urgent email last Monday to see if I could help a puppy that was there. I responded with "yes".
Then I received another email asking if I would help the other 5 dogs that were in their pound. They were all going to be put down Thursday (the 21st).
The dogs included this baby named Sonic.
Even though room is always tight on all transports, I responded with yes, we would be there Thursday afternoon if they would please hold them. The animal control officer was very happy to do this. So this precious little guy and his buddies WOULD have died last Thursday morning.
Sonic and the others will be heading to our vet on Monday morning for their necessary vaccinations, heartworm checks and spay/neuter.
From there they will make their long trip to their forever homes in Minnesota on the 29th.
Our plan right now is to transport this next Friday, April 29th. The annual Walk for the Dogs is scheduled for this coming Saturday, where Dave and I will be able to see many of the dogs that we have transported over the last 2 years. This will be an exciting day for all of us.
Last Sunday as we were coming home from transport, in the middle of the interstate were a mom and her 5 babies. This was over 60 miles from us. We immediately stopped and I got mom and babies running off the road into the ditch. They ran in a field. I could not catch them. I cried all the way home. For two days I kept praying for them to be safe. Finally on Wednesday I told Dave I just had to go back. We drove back the 60 miles and drove around and there in the ditch were the mom and babies! I jumped out of the car and with a little coaxing she came to me and her babies. The babies were only about 5 weeks old. Beagle mixes. I plan on taking them as soon as they are 8 weeks old.
Right now the list is as follows:
Sonic and his 5 friends.
Golden Retriever (found dumped along a country road)
Bosco - German Shepherd around 7 months old (dumped at McQuicks Store last night)
26 puppies from Cherokee County Humane Society (Lou)
6 Dogs from Dr. Elliott in Tahlequah OK
And there may be more before next Thursday. Each day we receive anywhere from 10 to 30 phone calls and emails about dogs/puppies in need.
Without all of you helping us with the gas money, these transport trips just cannot be made.
Thank all of you and God Bless,
Connie and David

This is Ghost. We spotted him in a kill shelter on-line and our rescue coordinator, Ragenea Rand, worked very hard to find a rescue group that could take him before he was put to sleep. Unfortunately, every rescue she contacted was totally full and could not take him.
Fortunately, after Reg spent several tense days looking for help, our friends at the Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue stepped up to save him! Our sponsorship money will go toward his vet bills and other costs.

This is Gordon, a handsome young collie/shepherd mix. Here is his story, from an email from Ann Crumb of the Rescue Express:
"Gordon is a stunning, long haired shep/collie mix with the markings of a Gordon Setter. He is quite the playboy as he loves to flirt with the females, but also enjoys mixing it up with the boys. He is neutered and up to date on shots, but heartworm positive and needs treatment immediately. He is very easy-going and low maintenance. Gordon was pulled from Floyd County [kill shelter] at the very last hour by The Rescue Express. He will make an amazing pet for anyone willing to give him a loving home. Please help us get Gordon the treatment he needs."

Alpine is a Great Pyrenees puppy who became a stray in rural Texas. She was picked up by animal control and brought to a kill shelter. No one wanted to adopt her and her time was running out. She became ill and her chances were not good.
Luckily, our friends at the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society of Houston are up to a challenge and pulled her from the shelter before she could be killed. Our sponsorship money will go toward vet bills and foster costs.

This is Sally, a friendly little Doxy-Beagle mix. Sally is probably the daughter of Shamrock, a little girl we recently helped. Her owners turned her in to a kill shelter in rural South Carolina, because they they were too lazy to come up with a better plan when they felt they could not care for her any more.
She ran out of time at the shelter and was set to be put to sleep. With our sponsorship, the Cherokee County Humane Society pulled her. If not for you and your wonderful support of these doomed dogs, she would be dead in that shelter already. Because of your donations, she will instead eventually find a good home.
Please chip in and help raise $140 to help pay for boarding, shots, etc. using the ChipIn.

Since many people in our Club own Great Pyrenees dogs, I am passing on a request from a veterinarian who is doing research on why Great Pyrs get cancer. She wants to get as many DNA samples from these gentle giants as possible. Please see her message below and help her if you can with a DNA sample from your dog.
We would appreciate your help in both collecting samples from purebred Pyrs (they do not have to be registered, but they do need to be purebred), and in getting the word out to owners.
The CHCC is studying several types of cancers in varying breeds of dogs, and would very much appreciate buccal (cheek) swabs from as many Great Pyrenees as possible. These swabs will be used in studies looking at osteosarcoma and also dwarfism in Pyrs.
The kits are very user friendly and easy for owners to do at home. There is no charge for the kits, and they include prepaid return mailers. Drs. Duesbery and Neff are the primary investigators on these studies; I work in sample collection.
to request kits. Also, if there are owners of Pyrs who are affected with bone cancer currently, simple blood samples from those dogs are also very helpful. I’ll be happy to answer questions.
Our friends Connie and Dave are planning another trip on Wednesday. This time it is a trip from Oklahoma to bring at least 43 doomed dogs and puppies to safety in Chicago. Our $200 sponsorship is about $5 a dog - it can be so cheap to save a puppy's life!
Here’s the plan from Connie:
“Here is a picture of the puppies that will be going this Wednesday to Chicago.
So far this is what we have going:
·4 puppies - lab mix - 10 weeks old
·2 moms and puppies - each mom has 6 puppies
·This set of puppies and their mom

·4 little dogs - under the size of 20 lbs
·3 Chihuahua puppies - 6 weeks old

This cute terrier is Ralphie. Here is his story from our friends Gisela and Rosie from St. Cloud's:
"Ralphie (the Terrier mix) was pulled on his last day from Collin County Animal Services. He has been to the vet for his vaccinations. Ralphie is HW positive and has Hook worms. He is also sick with a intestinal issue that more blood work has to be run to determine the issue. He is not able to hold his food down and is very lethargic .Another issue with Ralphie is that he is terrified of all the large dogs and we do not have a separate place to put him. We do not have any fosters, all our dogs are kept on the premises, so we will have to board him. We would so appreciate any help Doomed Dogs can give us. Thank you. Rosie & Gisela"
