Could you spare $5 to save this huge young boy?
This gorgeous young boy is Jeffrey. He has been raised as a livestock guardian dog on a farm in rural Missouri. He made the mistake of wandering away from the farm last week and onto a highway to check out a dead skunk. When he returned, his owner was very upset. She was worried that now that he has learned he can leave the farm, he will run amok and kill the neighbors’ cows or cause an accident on the highway. (Or maybe he smelled like a dead skunk and she didn’t want to deal with it!) She threatened to shoot him unless a rescue took him immediately. The police got involved and it was clear that even if she didn’t shoot him, he was going straight to the local kill shelter. Good rescues really try to keep dogs from going into shelters if they can help it – it is very upsetting to the dogs and they can catch diseases there. Our friends at Bear Creek Rescue mobilized, scooped him up and brought him to safety. They are completely overloaded and need our help to pay for his vetting and expenses while they find a home for him. We agreed to sponsor him to help them save his life.
Although he is completely unused to humans, he loves to be petted. He is learning about cars, doors, leashes and many more basics of being a pet rather than part of the livestock. He is the sweetest guy you'd ever meet. Carolyn at Bear Creek thinks he will keep growing (he’s about 20 months old now) and reach 150-160 pounds. What a great dog he is going to be! (Let us know if you are interested in adopting him – gorgeous, healthy, sweet and enormous Great Pyr puppies don’t become available every day! He is one of the most adoptable dogs I have seen in a long time.)
