Jonas and Jameson

Could you chip in $5 to help these orphan boys?

Meet Jameson and Jonas, two Great Pyrenees puppies from a kill shelter in rural Tennessee. Wait, they don’t look much like GPs, do they? Well, they were supposed to be part of a litter of Pyr pups that the Pyr rescue groups were scrambling to save last week. We offered to sponsor them to make it easier for a rescue to take them. Big Fluffy Dogs Rescue stepped up and pulled the puppies only to find that they are probably Great Dane mixes, not Great Pyrs! Maybe just a typo? Anyway, BFDR thinks Dane-Lab mix is the best guess.

Litters of puppies can be very expensive – lot of shots, neutering, special food, etc. Please chip in to raise $175 to help BFDR save these beautiful puppies! Also, if you live in or near Tennessee and want to adopt a small Great Dane or a really large Lab, please contact Big Fluffy Dogs Rescue!

Please help us raise the $175 we need to help save them using the ChipIn.

All donations go directly from Paypal to Big Fluffy Dogs Rescue, a 501(c)(3) charity, and are tax-deductible. Please chip in - together we can save this one and many more!

Queenie

Would you give $5 to help this poor girl?

This poor lady is Queenie. She was found by a motorist on a busy highway. This Good Samaritan took Queenie to a kill shelter. Janet Davis (National Akbash Rescue) teamed up with Pam Tobin (Sierra Pacific Great Pyr Rescue) to save her. They asked us to sponsor her and then grabbed her from the shelter.

Here’s what Pam has to say: “…I don’t have to tell you what bad shape she was in. This dog was loaded with dead flesh and blood (not sure where it came from), cockle burrs, foxtails, and all kinds of stickers!"

"We had an ultrasound done on her today to make sure she wasn’t pregnant. It’s obvious that this dog has been used as a breeder and has had lots of puppies. After Tuesday there won’t be any more babies for this little gal. She is thought to be about 4-5 yrs old and has some arthritis in her hips already and probably a mild dysplastic situation that she will easily be able to live with and when older put on anti-inflammatories….most old dogs are on something. She has had her shots and her results from her heartworm check will be in tomorrow. Let’s hope that’s negative. She is now clean, flea and tick free and comfortable. Her appetite is good and she’s on an immune boosting diet and glucosamine. I suspect before long she will look like the royalty her name implies, she certainly didn’t when she came. She smelled as bad as she looked, but no more!"

Please help us raise the $140 we need to help save her using the ChipIn.

All donations go directly from Paypal to National Great Pyrenees Rescue, a 501(c)(3) charity, and are tax-deductible. Please chip in - together we can save this one and many more!

Houston Puppies

Would you give $5 to help these puppies?

These eleven little balls of white fluff were living outside in very cold weather in rural Texas. At 5 weeks old, their mother was put in the vet hospital with severe mastitis. The Great Pyr puppies could not survive outside without mom. (Why didn’t the owners just take them inside? Maybe it was inconvenient.) Luckily, Great Pyrenees Rescue Society of Houston has taken them in, with our sponsorship. With a big bunch of puppies come big vet bills!

Please help us raise the $200 we need to help save these puppies using the ChipIn.

All donations go directly from Paypal to the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society, a 501(c)(3) charity, and are tax-deductible. Please chip in - together we can save them and many more!

Bo Bo

Update:  Bo Bo has been adopted!!!!

Would you give $5 to help this skinny boy?

This goofy Great Pyr is Bo Bo. He lived as stray for a long time and was finally befriended by a wonderful couple in Alabama. They did not ignore him or turn him into a kill shelter. Instead, they took him in and took the trouble to find a rescue to take him. (Why can’t everyone act this way?) What’s more, after they arranged with the Great Pyr Rescue of Atlanta to take him, they drove for 12 hours in a ice storm to bring him to Atlanta! Bo Bo is painfully skinny from his wandering days, but is very sweet. Our sponsorship will help GPRA to pay for his vet and other costs while they fatten him up and find a permanent family for him.

Please help us raise the $140 we need to help save him using the ChipIn.

All donations go directly from Paypal to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta, a 501(c)(3) charity, and are tax-deductible. Please chip in - together we can save this one and many more!

Two Texas Puppies

Would you give $5 to help these puppies?

These two adorable Pyr puppies (one female, one male) are only about 4 weeks old. They were torn from their mother and brought to a kill shelter for disposal. Because puppies, especially very young ones, are difficult to care for, they are often killed quickly by shelters. Luckily for them, our friends at Lonestar Pyrs & Paws Texas scooped them up. They will need a lot of care (still bottle feeding) and vetting, but for now they are safe!

We get to name them! The first two people donating $40 or more can each name one!

Please help us raise the $200 we need to help save these puppies using the ChipIn.

All donations go directly from Paypal to the Lonestar Pyrs & Paws Texas, a 501(c)(3) charity, and are tax-deductible. Please chip in - together we can save them and many more!

Bunny

Would you give $5 to help this poor girl?

This sweetie is Little Bunny Foo Foo. She didn’t get along with the other dogs in her home, so her owners got rid of her by dumping her at a kill shelter rural Texas. This story, which we hear over and over, just drives me crazy. Why couldn’t these people come up with a better solution to the issue that having a shelter kill their pet?

Anyway, most owner surrenders are put to sleep immediately in busy shelters, but Bunny was lucky. Our friends at Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue, with our sponsorship, pulled her out and, thank in large part to your generosity, she will eventually end up with a nice, permanent family that will cherish her.

Please help us raise the $140 we need to help save her using the ChipIn.

Troy

Would you give $5 to help this sick boy?

This is Troy, a gorgeous Great Pyrenees who became a stray for reasons we will never know. The world is a very cruel place for strays and their ability to survive depends on luck and the generosity of strangers. He did survive, but Troy ended up in a kill shelter in Georgia. He was not listed on Petfinder or Petango, so he would likely have been missed, except that a Doomed Dogs member emailed us about him. We contacted our friends at Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta and they pulled him from the shelter. He is underweight from his hobo days, suffers from a severe respiratory infection and is heartworm positive. So GPRA has some big bills to pay to get this guy in shape to be adopted.

Please help us raise the $140 we need to help save him using the ChipIn.

Daphney

Would you give $5 to help this poor baby?

This little sweetie is Daphney. She is a snuggly ShiTzu mix from a kill shelter in Southern California. She was adopted by woman who changed her mind 12 hours later and decided to bring her back to the shelter. With the awful skin condition she has, that would likely have meant that she would have been killed right away. But, to save her life, our friends at the Lovebugs Rescue said they would take her instead. Love Bugs needs our help to pay the big vet bills looming for this little doll.

Please help us raise the $140 we need to help save her using the ChipIn.

All donations go directly from Paypal to Lovebugs Rescue, a 501(c)(3) charity, and are tax-deductible. Please chip in - together we can save this one and many more!

Lacey

This is Lacey, a Pyr mom who has had a very hard life. She was (and still is) a feral dog. A rural land owner tried to shoot her, so a team of professional wolf rescuers trapped her to save her life. She was brought to Carolyn Jordan at Bear Creek Rescue. The poor, emaciated lady had 11 puppies the day she arrived – 8 of which lived. Carolyn has already adopted out four of the puppies and has four left. Luckily, these pups will have a much better life than their mother.

Lacey is still a wild animal, requiring heavy sedation to be caught and handled. She needs to be spayed and checked out by a vet – goodness knows what health problems she may have. Carolyn needs our help to save this poor dog.

Please help us raise the $140 we need to help save her using the ChipIn.

All donations go directly from Paypal to National Great Pyrenees Rescue, a 501(c)(3) charity, and are tax-deductible. Please chip in - together we can save this one and many more!

Kern County Puppy

Would you give $5 to help this sweet puppy?

This gorgeous but scared 4-month old puppy was found as a stray in the San Joaquin Valley in California. She was brought to the local kill shelter and this picture was posted on Petharbor. Look at the picture and you will see that her legs and lower body are covered in blood. Luckily, it doesn’t seem to be her blood. The people at the shelter are so uncaring about the animals that they didn’t seem to have noticed it when they took her in and when she had her picture taken. Unbelievable. When our friend, Janet Davis at National Akbash Rescue, spotted her online and called to ask about the blood, the shelter clammed up and wouldn’t say anything. Right away they switched the picture to a new one in which she is cleaned up. How did she end up in a kill shelter covered in blood? We don’t know – but there can’t be a good reason.

Janet asked the Doomed Dogs to sponsor her and we agreed. The Niko Foundation Rescue agreed to take her from the shelter. The pup is sick with kennel cough and has some intestinal issues, but those should be solvable.

We have the honor of naming her – the first person to donate $40 or more can give this cutie a name!

Please help us raise the $140 we need to help save her using the ChipIn.

Joseph

Would you give $5 to help this handsome boy?

This big boy is Joseph. He was a wary stray, staying in one neighborhood in Alabama, foraging off scraps and roadkill for almost a year. He was too afraid of humans to be tamed. Finally, a Pyr-owning couple were able to catch him, using a hot dog as bait. They took him to a kill shelter, because their male Pyr is dog aggressive to other males. When his stray hold time was up, rescue angel Shari Drube (Lonestar Pyrs & Paws) took him so he wouldn’t be killed. We agreed to sponsor him so the rescue could afford to take him. Joe is very thin from being a stray, but he is recovering from his fear of humans and should make a fine pet.

Please help us raise the $140 we need to help save Joe using the ChipIn.

Rodeo

Update:  Rodeo has been adopted!

Would you give $5 to help this cute puppy?

This little sweetie is Rodeo, a handsome Great Pyr boy. His mom was killed by a truck when he was only 4 weeks old, so he had to be bottle fed. Rodeo is going to be huge – at eight weeks, he is already 22 pounds! Great Pyr Rescue of Atlanta took him in to keep him out of the shelter and asked us to sponsor him. Our donations will help to pay for his vet and other costs, while GPRA finds a nice home for him.

Please help us raise the $140 we need to help save him using the ChipIn.

Texas Baby Boy - Max

Update - this baby's new name is Max - we raised the sponsorship money for him and he is doing well.

Would you give $5 to help this baby?

This beautiful baby boy was dumped a kill shelter in Brownwood, Texas. He was taken out in the nick of time by our friends at the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society of Houston, who requested our assistance. We have agreed to sponsor him so they will have funds to pay for his vetting and other costs.

We get to name him! So the first person to make a contribution of $40 or more can choose a name for him – a great opportunity to honor a dog or a guy in your life!

Please help us raise the $110 we need to help save him using the ChipIn.

Wishbone

Could you donate $5 to save this feisty puppy?

Wishbone is a six-month old Jack Russel terrier mix, playful and energetic - but stuck in a kill shelter. We are his only realistic hope of escaping from the shelter. If we can sponsor him, our friend, Jude Wyles, at the Cherokee County Humane Society, will pull Jody and the Humane Society will keep him until she can send him to a rescue.

Please help us raise $105 to get Wishbone out of the kill shelter and into foster care.

Please use the ChipIn on our website at

Six Puppies in Atlanta

Could you give $5 to save these puppies?

These are adorable Pyr mix puppies, only 6 weeks old. They are part of a litter of 9 puppies dumped at the kill shelter in Florence, AL at the ripe old age of four weeks. We spotted them online and asked our friends at Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta to please, please, please save them. With our sponsorship, GPRA stepped up to take six of the puppies (including Panda, the parvo pup we sponsored last week), with the others going to other rescues.

With a big bunch of puppies come lots of vet bills for vaccinations, neutering, etc.! It is likely that if we did not ask to get GPRA involved and agree to sponsor, that these puppies would have been killed by the shelter – there wasn't exactly a rush by rescues to take them and often young pups are too much trouble for overworked shelter staff to care for, so sometimes shelers take the easy way out and just put them to sleep.

Please help us raise $200 we need to help save these puppies using the ChipIn.

All donations go directly from Paypal to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta, a 501(c)(3) charity, and are tax-deductible. Please chip in - together we can help save this one and many more!

Bubby

Could you donate $5 to save this poor guy?

Bubby, this gorgeous Great Pyrenees pup, was born into a horror story. His owner didn’t want to deal with a big litter of puppies, so he dumped mom and pups in a remote wilderness section of Missouri. Hunters shot and killed his mother. Then, without mom to protect the puppies, they were attacked by adult dogs. All of Bubby’s litter mates were killed by the dogs. Bubby was finally trapped and taken to the kill shelter, where Carolyn Jordan of Bear Creek Rescue found him. He still has a lot of issues due to his feral start in life, but Carolyn will bring him back and make a good pet out of him and find him a good home. Bubby has been adopted at Bear Creek by Lilah, a sick mom who lost her litter of pups (more on her later).

Please help us raise $160 to help Carolyn save Bubby.

Humphrey

Could you donate $5 to save this handsome stray?

Humphrey is a sweet 3-year-old Great Pyrenees. He is painfully thin from his days as a stray. He couldn’t stay clear of the law and ended up in a kill shelter in rural Texas. Although he must have starved for weeks, he is healthy and has a nice disposition – he is very adoptable. Unfortunately, dogs only get a few days in the shelter before they are killed. Luckily, the Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue, with our sponsorship, scooped him up and he has a chance to have a good life!

Please help us raise the $160 we need to help save this nice boy using the ChipIn.

Bocci

Could you spare $5 to save this scared puppy?

Bocci, a Pyr/Akbash puppy (11 months old) was found as a stray by animal control in Modesto, CA. He was scheduled to be put to sleep when Janet Davis of National Akbash Rescue got news of him. In the nick of time, Janet was able to find a rescue to take him – but only if we agreed to sponsor him, since cash is very short in Central California rescues. We agreed to sponsor him and the rescue took him!

Once again, your willingness to donate has saved the life of a kill shelter dog!

Martin

Could you donate $5 to save this poor boy?

This handsome young Great Pyrenees is Martin. He has one of the saddest type of rescue stories – he was surrendered to a kill shelter by an owner too uninformed or to uncaring to realize that giving up a dog to a kill shelter is tantamount to killing the poor dog. Dogs surrendered by their owners can legally be killed by a shelter within minutes of taking in the dog, since the stray-hold laws do not apply to them. Anyway, what could have been the last day of Martin’s life turned out to be the day his life got better. The Waco shelter called our friends at the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society in Houston and GPRS, relying on our sponsorship, pulled him out!

Please help us raise the $160 we need to help save this nice boy using the ChipIn.

Thank you so much for contributing. Your donations are having a big impact - our Club has helped to save over 100 dogs from kill shelters in the last few months!

Panda

Could you give $5 to save a puppy?

Panda is an adorable Pyr mix puppy only 5 weeks old. He and his eight brothers and sisters were dumped at the kill shelter in Florence, AL at the ripe old age of four weeks. We spotted them online and asked our friends at Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta to please save them. With our sponsorship, GPRA stepped up to take six of the puppies, with the others going to other rescues.

Unfortunately, Panda has parvo, the dread killer of puppies. He will likely survive, since it was caught right away, but it will be expensive.

Please help us raise $160 we need to help pay for Panda's vet bills.

Sophie

Could you spare $5 to help an old sweetie?

Sophie is a wonderful Great Pyr, 12 years young. She and her sister belonged to a couple in their 70’s, one of whom developed cancer. Their owners felt that they couldn’t care for the two girls, and so, off to the kill shelter they went. I am sure it was a difficult decision for two people in a difficult position – but it really is awful for the dogs.

At that point, Sophie’s chances of living another week were pretty slim. However, some people in our Club stirred up some interest in the gyrls. 12-year-old dogs have almost no chance of being adopted from a shelter, and not much chance of being adopted from a rescue. Nonetheless, the girls found an angel in Candi Bright with Gentle Giants Rescue. Candi agreed to take them, knowing full well that they would probably stay in foster care until they pass away. We are sponsoring Sophie to help with the costs of rescue.

So if you believe in cherishing old dogs rather than throwing them out, and you believe in supporting angels on earth when you run into them, please contribute to save Sophie!

Please help us raise the $160 we need to help save Sophie using the ChipIn.

Montauk

Could you donate $5 to save this poor guy?

Last week, we asked Carolyn Jordan at Bear Creek Rescue if she could shoe-horn in one more Pyr from a kill shelter in Missouri. She agreed even though Bear Creek is overfull, because that's the kind of person she is. Here’s what she had to say after she picked him up:

“Springfield shelter boy "Montauk" is so very thin. He's actually a large boned, long, tall dog. With protruding bones. And quite a nasty mess, long term neglect. If not for the hair, he'd look like a Chernobyl survivor. He's heartbreakingly sweet. He's a Pyr paw guy. We drove home in 4WD on solid ice with his face in my face, his paw on my shoulder or on top of my head. Almost home he laid down finally & put his big stinky head in my lap. Had to take 3/4 T truck due to roads. He would not stay in back seat. Would not stay on his side in the front, even tethered. He smells so badly, but he only wanted to snuggle, so that's the way we came home, LOL.

He's going to vet early tomorrow for work up. He may not be a candidate for neuter just yet. Blood work first. He's had vacs & flea treatment, tomorrow we get out the big gun testing & see where we are.”

Please help us raise $160 to help Carolyn save Montauk.
