Zoe
Could you spare $5 to help this puppy?
Zoe is a stunning white 8-10 month old Abkash or Pyr/Abkash mix who was turned into the local high kill animal control center. Virtually the only dogs who leave alive are those pulled by rescues contacted by shelter personnel. Zoe's crime? She was turned in to the shelter (really a large metal, unheated garage with cement floors and stainless steel shelves for small dogs) by the mother of a teenage boy who didn't follow through on his promise to take care of the new puppy he got last summer. She was "teaching him a lesson" by taking his dog to the shelter. I wonder if she realizes that the lesson she was really demonstrating to her child was that even the sweetest, most loving and innocent living creatures can be quickly and easily disposed of without a second thought when they become inconvenient. She certainly wasn't being a model of compassion.
Fortunately the staff at the animal control center realized what a gentle and well socialized dog Zoe was and called our friend Shari Drube, who had already rescued several Pyr mixes from that same shelter. Shari teamed up with Leslie Sampson of Lonestar Pyrs and Paws North in NH, to save Zoe with our sponsorship.
Shari writes: "We so appreciate all members of the Doomed Dog Rescue Club. You folks have literally doubled the lives we have been able to save in AL alone!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!"
